A read mapping is the alignment of a read to a certain genomic location. By its mapping, the read is associated with an unique slot. See the description of read mappings for single and paired-end reads.

A slot is a atomic location whre reads can map. For single reads of a certain length, the slot can be described by one coordinate, for paired-end reads a 2-tuple is necessary.
